Microstructure and Process Optimisation in Additive Manufacturing of Duplex Stainless Steel by DED-LB/w

This study investigates wire-fed laser directed-energy deposition (DED-LB/w) of duplex stainless steel and the effect of solution annealing on its microstructure. Excessive wire feed can produce partially melted fine grains, lack of fusion, porosity and cracking, whereas optimised parameters yield defect-free parts. Solution annealing dissolves intermetallic phases and homogenises the phase distribution.
